Regulation is the term used for adjusting the individual
action parts of a piano to ensure that each key performs
correctly, and that the touch of the entire keyboard is even
from one end to the other. Because the action parts are
made from wood, felt, and leather, actions are susceptible
to changing humidity levels, which can in turn change the
adjustment of the action. Wear and tear of the parts over
time can also effect the regulation. Having the regulation
adjusted from time to time will ensure that the action will be
able to bring out the greatest tonal and dynamic variety in
your piano, from the softest pianissimo to the loudest forte.
